Polaris Seismograms Example

The "Polaris Current Seismograms" page on Polaris website consist of a table showing the hypocentre location of recent earthquakes or other seismic events and as many as twenty images for each event. As an example, images for a recent event (number 178) are all shown here on one page.

Two hot links are generated for each event, the first one showing event number (178 in this case), the second one showing a data identifier (A in this case). Click on the event number hot link to see images associated with this event. Click on the Data hot link to download the data.

For each event an "Arrays Image Map" and a "Stations Image Map" is generated. The "Arrays Image Map" is shown as you load the "Polaris Current Waveform Data" page or when you click on an event number in the table on the top of the page. The "Arrays Image Map" shows the location of the event in a red star, the location of Polaris Arrays in dark blue, green and cyan, and nine clickable boxes for three Polaris Arrays (NWT, ON, BC) and three component seismographs, Z, N and E.

Click on each of the 9 boxes on the "Arrays Image Map", below to view the seismographs for each Array/Component pair. Click on the "3c Stations" link to load the "Stations Image Map" and view 3c data for selected group of stations. Other notable hot links include the "Polaris" link that loads a simple map of Polaris Arrays, the "event number (178 in this case)" hot link that displays useful information about the event. A "Help" link is also available for on-line help.

When you click on this link, the left part of the screen will display the text, below. The right part shows event icons in an interactive FTP format which allows quick download.

Data in SEED format can be copied from the list on the right. Simply right-click on the event icon(s) and use the "Copy To Folder..." or  "Save Link As..." option of the Browser to copy to your local disk.

If your Browser does not allow download from the list, ftp directly from nazca.cg.nrcan.gc.ca, directory pub/polaris/current/waveform/data.
